Elevated Every Day Oats

Oatmeal. For the longest time I never ate it because I always felt it didn’t sit well on my stomach- that is until I started using sprouted oats. After happening to buy them one day, I noticed I didn’t have the same heavy feeling I typically would get after eating oatmeal, so I did a deep dive and found some facts.

Oats and other grains contain compounds that scientists call anti-nutrients, which make digestion difficult for humans without extensive cooking or grinding. However, when the grain or oat is sprouted,  those anti-nutrients are broken down, increasing the bioavailability of the grains minerals and vitamins, causing it to be easier to digest and absorb.

So now I love a good bowl of oatmeal, and here is my current favorite recipe!

Enjoy.

Every Day Oats

  • 1/3 cup organic sprouted oats

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds

  • 1/4 cup berries of choice

  • 1 tbsp peanut or almond butter

  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

  • Dash of salt, cinnamon, vanilla extract

  • 1/2 banana sliced

  • 1 tsp hemp seeds to top

In a pan, combine oats and chia seeds with 1 cup of water, stirring consistently and allow to come to a boil. As oats cook, add in a dash of salt and cinnamon. I either add in a handful of frozen blueberries or strawberries while the oats cook, and when they are thickening and almost done, I add a splash more water, the vanilla extract, the protein powder, and stir to combine.

Place in a bowl, topping with peanut butter, sliced banana and fruit of choice with a sprinkle of hemp seeds.

These are high in protein and fiber to keep you full and fueled for the rest of your morning!
